How this works

The deposit limits are from Cal. BPC § 7159.5, the Nevada State Contractors Board, and M.G.L. c. 142A, § 2. Other states may have different rules or none. Check with your state’s contractor board.
California’s limit has narrow exceptions, for example some contractors with a special bond. If your contractor says one applies, ask your state board.
The final-payment check follows the FTC’s advice and, for Massachusetts, c. 142A § 2.
